So back in June we finally paid off the cobalt (yay) but now a month later we have yet to receive the title from the lender aka Santader Consumer USA (boo). Now I thought this unusual because we also paid off the Explorer in early June and the lender aka Wells Fargo, got us the title and purchase agreement within a week and a half of our final payment.
So I try logging into our old Santander account thinking I could just make sure I didn’t misread the payoff date some how and all of a sudden the account couldn’t be found. Tried recovering the user I’d and says my social can’t be found, try creating a new account and same thing. So obviously the account must be closed and they delete closed accounts, that’s fine, Little annoying, but fine. So I tried calling and in order to get through the automated system they have to recognize your social and don’t and again it doesn’t find me. They won’t even let me talk to a person without verifying my account which they deleted.
The whole reason for this is lately we have had someone going through our mail. My wife has received torn open cards from people that had checks in them from the passing of her mother. Luckily the person going through our mail can’t use the checks so nothing’s been taken but now I’m worried the letter containing the title to our car has been stolen. There’s an investigation open by the USPS into it but still it’s all just so frustrating
Thanks for letting me rant guys and girls.

It takes a real greasy fuck to go through someone’s mail like that.
Completely unrelated: my wallet got nicked in Spain by some other greasy shit of a fuck (luckily only around 40 euros was taken, but the loss of my cards was the major issue) but luckily I had a bunch of spare US currency. No bank was willing to exchange it for me, but I remembered Santander from F1 advertising. I figured a major bank like this (I figure you need to be major to be an F1 sponsor) would be able to do the exchange. Sure enough, the first Santander I walked into had a life-size cardboard Fernando Alonso and they were able to exchange the funds for me without any issue.
So, my one and only experience with Santander has been alright. I didn’t even realize Santander operated in the USA.

Dude, that blows. Hopefully they were just slow with sending the documents. I’m trying to think what someone could do with a loan. Maybe use it for a title loan? I dunno. Regardless though you never received it which isn’t cool.
I’ve been using this service from the USPS for a while now and it’s pretty neat, if it’s available in your area. You get an image of the items that come in your mail every day.

yeah Santander is now FCAs financing arm in the states and headquartered in Boston as Santander Consumer USA. they also specialize in subprime loans which is basically what the cobalt was financed under. they do all sorts of shady shit here and jalopnik has done several articles on them

A reminder to everyone, when dealing with an automated phone system repeatedly press the pound key till it connects you with a real person.
